Story
An idea crafted during lockdown and realised with an opening in March 2021, Layla is an artisan bakery by day, and open for evening snacks and natural wines by night in Ladbroke Grove, north-west London.
Steered forward by owner Tessa Faulkner, head baker Nelson and head barista Matt, Layla's food offering is centred around three different types of sourdough bread - white, wild rye and 7-seeded – all made from scratch by hand, across a two-day process using regeneratively farmed wild grains.
The food menu also consists of delectable, delicate pastries, spiced brioche buns, peanut cookies, sausage rolls and weekly-changing focaccia sandwiches, all of which are baked fresh on site each morning.

Knowing that a bread can only be as good as the flour it is from, Layla has teamed-up with Wildfarmed – a new type of farm centred around a permanent biodiverse ecosystem, and producing superior flour through its heritage stonemill process.

From our first meeting it was clear that Layla was destined to establish itself not only as a jewel in the crown of Ladbroke Grove, but as one of London's leading independent bakeries.
Tessa and the team's passion for developing new models of sourcing seasonal ingredients, where positive impact informs all decisions, is innovative and aligns with the values at the heart of our own perspective on coffee trade.
They have a fierce desire to use the finest seasonal produce, sourced considerately with environmentally-kind mechanisms and produced with care for the local community to enjoy in a comforting, welcoming space. And, of course, they serve up a pretty mean flat white.
